Identification of Optimal Binders for Torrefied Biomass Pellets

نویسندگان

چکیده

The pretreatment of biomass through torrefaction is an effective means improving the fuel quality woody and its suitability for use in existing facilities burning thermal coal. Densification torrefied produces a similar energy density, moisture content, fixed carbon content to low-grade coals. Additionally, if conditions are optimized, produced pellet will be resistant weathering biological degradation, allowing outdoor storage transport manner In untreated biomass, lignin primary binding agent pellets activated by heat pressures extrusion process. degradation during reduces ability, resulting low durability not suitable transportation. can increase pellets/briquettes number different mechanisms depending on binder used. This study gives review granular mechanisms, as they apply assesses variety organic inorganic agents, ranking them their applicability based criteria, including durability, hydrophobicity, cost. best binders were found solid by-product derived from pulp paper processing, tar pyrolysis, tall oil pitch, lime.

Oxidative torrefaction of biomass residues and densification of torrefied sawdust to pellets.

Oxidative torrefaction of sawdust with a carrier gas containing 3-6% O(2) was investigated in a TG and a fluidized bed reactor, with the properties of the torrefied sawdust and pellets compared with traditional torrefaction without any O(2), as well as the dry raw material. It is found that the oxidative torrefaction process produced torrefied sawdust and pellets of similar properties as normal...

Grindability and combustion behavior of coal and torrefied biomass blends.

Biomass samples (pine, black poplar and chestnut woodchips) were torrefied to improve their grindability before being combusted in blends with coal. Torrefaction temperatures between 240 and 300 °C and residence times between 11 and 43 min were studied. The grindability of the torrefied biomass, evaluated from the particle size distribution of the ground sample, significantly improved compared ...

Fuel Properties and Suitability of Eucalyptus Benthamii and Eucalyptus Macarthurii for Torrefied Wood and Pellets

Torrefaction is the process of heating a material in the absence of oxygen, a pretreatment that represents a promising option for biofuels. Two eucalyptus species harvested in South Carolina, E. benthamii and E. macarthurii, were processed in a torrefier, and wood pellets were manufactured. Eucalyptus represents a promising biomass source in southern U.S. due to fast growth rates and the availa...

Pareto-Optimal Motif for Predicting Peptide Binders

The peptide binding prediction methods are constantly evolving due to the accuracy gap between the computational predictions and the experimental predictions. Binding peptides are reflected by the presence of a motif that defines the binding site to a particular molecule. However, the degenerate nature of motifs and the varying chemical properties of residues at the binding sites across a wide ...

Modeling for proximate analysis and heating value of torrefied biomass with vibration spectroscopy.

The goal of this study was to characterize the changes in biomass with torrefaction for near infrared reflectance (NIR) and attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopy for sweetgum, loblolly pine, and switchgrass. Calibration models were built for the prediction of proximate analysis after torrefaction. Two dimensional (2D) correlation spectroscopy between NI...
